Individual arrival. The Camino starts in León, with its well preserved city center and its astonishing Gothic cathedral, a gem of the Spanish architecture. Despite its name, the origin of the town has nothing to do with the king of the jungle – The name ‘Leon’ is an evolution from the latin ‘Legio’. The Legio VI Victrix, set its campground here in 29 BC. Enjoy the wine and tapas in the «barrio húmedo» and get ready for the incoming adventure.

Today you will cycle through Castilian landscapes, with golden wheatfields and soft ups and downs. The landscape gets greener as you get closer to Astorga. This city is famous for the importance of its monuments, including some Gaudí’s masterpices, and for having been the camp of the Roman Legion Décima Gémina.

Today`s cycle will take you into the Maragatería region, a wooded and mountainous region known for its beautiful villages. After climb to the highest point of the tour you will descend into the valley of «el Bierzo».

Today we will cross El Bierzo, whose economic activity during the first years of the 20th century was focused on mining, the steel industry and power generation. The last coal mine in El Bierzo closed in 2018. The agri-food sector, with the production of fruits, vegetables, wines and other products registered in the Bierzo denomination of origin, is currently one of the main economic engines of the region. At the end of the cycling day we will reach Galician lands and the climb to O Cebreiro awaits, so save strength for the last part.

As we enter in Galicia the landscape change significantly, we are now in the green Spain. After the climb to O Cebreiro, today we descend to Sarria, known for being the usual starting point for the last 100 km of the French Camino de Santiago. Among its monuments, the Tower of the Fortress of the Marquises of Sarria and the Monastery of La Magdalena built in the 13th century. In total, in the entire municipality you can find up to 20 churches from the Romanesque period.

Continuous ups and downs await on today’s route.We will descend in the first place to the beautiful city of Portomarín. Then we will cycle through green and stunning landscapes where we will breath at every mile the spirit of the Camino. Finally, we will end up in Palas de Rei. Palas de Rei has an extensive artistic heritage that reflects the stately past of these lands, as it preserves remains of fortresses, towers, castles, as well as several country houses and emblazoned houses.

As we get closer to Santiago, we will share the way with Pilgrims from all over the world. An unforgetable experience that will remain in our memories for ever. We will come across today through significants towns in the Camino such as Melide and Arzua. Take some time to taste the famous local Pulpo a la Gallega.

Last day of our adventure and probably one of the most remarkable of our lives. Short ride so that we have time enough to enjoy the magnificent city of Santiago de Compostela, final point of the Camino and one of the most beautiful cities in Spain. The Pórtico de la Gloria in the Cathedral is awaiting to welcome us along with hundreds of pilgrims with whom we will share our joy and experiences. Visit the Pilgrims’ Office where you can obtain the «Compostela» certificate which certifies you as an official pilgrim.
