2nd Day: Solferino (45 km)

First day on bike among fruit plantations and vineyards of the eminent still white wine Lugana, characteristic of this region. You arrive in Solferino, the site of the famous battle that ended the Italian Second War of Independence, providing the basis for a united Italy. Along the way you can spot a few historic castles: in Monzambano, in Castellaro Lagusello, in Pozzolengo and in Ponti sul Mincio.

3rd Day: Mantua – Borghetto – Park Sigurtà (transfer + 45 km by bike)

A private transfer will take you and your bikes to the enchanting Renaissance town of Mantua, a City State once ruled by the Gonzaga family, and now considered by many as Italy’s “Sleeping Beauty”. From there you start cycling along the Mincio river to the hamlet of Borghetto, listed among “Italy’s most beautiful villages” and renowned, along with neighbouring Valeggio, for its tortellini. The highlight of the day is Sigurtà Garden Park (www.sigurta.it). It covers a surface area of 600,000 sq. meters, with paths linking 18 ponds, meadows, a labyrinthine maze, a medicinal plants garden and large sundial, as well as an educational play farm.

4th Day: Garda (ferry + 40 km by bike)

After a short ride to Peschiera a ferry transfer takes you to Garda, the small town which gave its name to the lake. Once in Garda, get back on saddle and enjoy the route along the amazing lakeside towards Bardolino, famous for the red wine. You can choose to make a small detour and reach the enchanting Lazise, another fascinating historic hamlet. On the way back towards Peschiera, you pass through an area, which is well known for big amusement parks.

5th Day: Sirmione (45 km)

You start your day cycling through the rolling hills of the southern shore of Lake Garda, passing San Martino della Battaglia, which is remembered for the battles of the Italian War of Independence together with Solferino. Back to the lake one of the most picturesque places, Sirmione, welcomes you. A castle with battlements and fortified towers guards the entrance to this medieval town. Don’t miss a visit to the Grotte di Catullo, the remains of a Roman villa built between the end of the 1st century B.C. and the beginning of the 1st century A.D. with a wonderful view over the lake.
