The Classic along the Inn

The Inn is always accompanied by the Inn Cycle Path. Most of the time you cycle comfortably on flat routes through the Tyrolean mountains and Bavaria, to Upper Austria. Special features on your itinerary are for sure the alpine town of Innsbruck with the “golden roof”, as well as the fortified towns of Kufstein and Burghausen and the picturesque baroque towns of Obernberg and Schärding. The 3-river city of Passau is your final destination. There you can marvel at the confluence of the Inn, Ilz and Danube up close.

2nd Day: Innsbruck – Kufstein, approx. 50 km

Today you leave the state capital of Tyrol behind and cycle through picturesque towns and villages to Strass at the entrance to the Zillertal. Enjoy the fantastic mountain panorama and plan some time for the old town of Hall and the Swarovski Crystal Worlds in Wattens. The train takes you comfortably from Brixlegg to Kufstein.

3rd Day: Kufstein – Wasserburg, approx. 65 km

The mighty castle complex of Kufstein was yesterday. Today you cycle into the Bavarian foothills of the Alps, mainly on the dam and partly in lowland forests, to Wasserburg. The special location in the river bend results in a unique cityscape. With its historic old town, the charming facades and narrow streets, Wasserburg is certainly one of the most beautiful towns on the Inn.

4th Day: Wasserburg – Mühldorf, approx. 50 km

The path to Mühldorf leads through pleasant farmland, a little off the Inn through small villages and beautiful hills. The long town square with beautiful town houses is typical of Mühldorf.

5th Day: Mühldorf – Kirchdorf/Inn, approx. 45 km

Two special pilgrimage sites are waiting for you on this stage: Altötting, Bavaria’s most important pilgrimage site, and Marktl, the birthplace of Pope Benedict XVI. Before you cycle to Kirchdorf am Inn, breathtaking Burghausen lures you with the longest castle complex in Europe.

6th Day: Kirchdorf/Inn – Bad Füssing, approx. 35 km

The next section leads through the Europareservat Unterer Inn, through the floodplain landscape with an extraordinary variety of plants. It is a breeding ground for numerous waterfowl. For once, a little off the river, you will reach today’s stage destination, Bad Füssing. Enjoy the huge range of health and wellness options.

The last day of cycling takes you through baroque towns such as Obernberg – whose market square invites you to linger, Schärding with its Silberzeile and past Reichersberg Abbey to Passau.
