Tauern Cycle Path –
Classic
Krimml – Passau
Through the National Park Hohe Tauern
The Tauern Cycle Path takes you from the Hohe Tauern National Park to Salzburg, the city of Mozart’s birth, on a gently undulating landscape. From the Salzburger Land, step by step, you cycle leisurely along the banks of the Saalach and Inn through Austria and Bavaria to the three-river city of Passau. Numerous sights await you along the cycle path, e.g. the roaring Krimml Waterfalls, Bad Reichenhall, the Mozart city of Salzburg, picturesque Burghausen, the spa town of Bad Füssing and finally the city of Passau, at the confluence of the Inn, Ilz and Danube rivers.

2nd Day: Krimml – Zell am See/Kaprun, approx. 65 km
Your bike tour starts in Salzburger Land, at the foot of the largest waterfalls in Europe. The water masses plunge into the depths and offer visitors a great photo opportunity. The Krimml Waterfalls are among the main attractions in the Hohe Tauern National Park. The snow-capped three-thousanders are your constant companions, as well as green meadows, pretty individual farms and hospitable villages characterize the panorama. As a reward for today’s stage, Lake Zell – in the shadow of the Kitzsteinhorn and Großglockner – invites you to jump into the cool water.

3rd Day: Zell am See/Kaprun – Lofer, approx. 40 km
After you leave the bike path along the Salzach behind, you continue your journey through the wide Saalach Valley in Austria. Only behind Saalfelden do the mountains narrow the expanses. A detour to the Vorderkaserklamm or the Lamprechtshöhle is worthwhile.

4th Day: Lofer – Salzburg, approx. 45 km
You say goodbye to Lofer and cycle along the banks of the Saalach across the “green border” to Bad Reichenhall in Bavaria. Back in Austria, you will soon arrive in the cultural city of Salzburg, the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

5th Day: Salzburg – Burghausen, approx. 55 km
The mountains in Salzburger Land are now behind you and the Salzach leads you exactly along the German-Austrian border, through lush alluvial forests. In Oberndorf, the “Silent Night Chapel” lures you to take a break from pedalling, while a mysterious moorland landscape is located a little off the bike path. Dare and enjoy the cozy warmth of the numerous warm moor lakes. In Burghausen there is the opportunity to visit Central Europe’s largest castle complex.

6th Day: Burghausen – Bad Füssing, approx. 55 km
Today you cycle for the last time along the Salzach to the Inn-Salzach estuary. The cycle path now changes to the Inn Cycle Path in Upper Austria and impresses with extensive dammed water areas with branched bays, which offer a true bird paradise for brood care.
